Kurtis J. Pugh MS, LPC

Hi, my name is Kurtis Pugh. I am a licensed professional counselor (LPC) who works with children and parents. My primary theory of counseling is called MeaningPlay, which highlights the importance of intentionally harnessing the power of both meaning and play for human wellness. I see my role as your counselor as a guide and a support to you in finding and fulfilling the unique meanings in your life.

In MeaningPlay, attachment relationships, and sensory/emotional regulation are highly important. Much of the work I do in MeaningPlay will involve these vital systems, which means I often work with parents and children together and in ways that involve more than just talking (e.g., sensory play, healthy nurturing touch, facilitated rough housing, and therapeutic role playing games). I use the modalities of play therapy and sand therapy, especially incorporating many principles of Theraplay®. More than just using play modalities and techniques, I approach therapy with a spirit of playfulness that I believe is essential to the therapeutic process.

I have extensive experience and special expertise with young children (0-8), but I also love to work with older elementary-aged children (9-11). I am also passionate about helping parents and other important adults in the lives of children find meaning and playful joy in the great work they do in raising, teaching, and healing children.
